Glass Shell Necklace

Artisans in Ghana use recycled glass and shells to make this uniquely beautiful beaded necklace. The process involves crushing glass, such as bottles or broken window panes, funneling it into clay moulds and firing in a wood burning kiln. The beadmakers make the process look easy, but it takes years of apprenticeship and practice to be recognized as an accomplished artisan. The Krobo are known for their beads and Cedi is one of the best known beadmakers with a large workshop and several employees, selling both locally and internationally. Our necklace features three tiered strands of glass and mother-of-pearl shell beads on black threading, measuring 20" long with a metal hook fastener.
