Akkadian Candles

Give a gift of light and love this Mother's Day, with these special Akkadian candles, handcrafted in Turkey and hand-poured by women in Iraq. Designed by Mimi Robinson, inspired by the gardens of Ancient Mesopotamia, these candles were created to bring economic opportunities for women in Iraq, as part of a collaboration with Prosperity Candles and the US State Department.

At a time when many call for the closing of our borders to refugees, Prosperity Candle chooses to focus on those who remain in their homes despite the risks, and are equally deserving of assistance. Prosperity Candle is fair trade and B-Corp certified for social and environmental sustainability, and was recently named “Best for the World” as a leading example of companies “doing good while doing well.”

Choose from either the Garden Ceramic or Hammered Copper vessels. Made with the finest paraffin wax, (as soy is not readily available in Iraq), these candles have a very light, lavender and violet fragrance, and burn with a natural cotton wick. The larger candle measures 4" x 4" and burns for 65 hours, the smaller measures 3.25" x 3.75", and burns for 25 hours. Gift box, story card and matchbox included.

Prosperity Candle is a small group of people who share a common dream of a world where all women have the opportunity to truly thrive. Every Prosperity candle is artfully handmade by women artisans. The artisans behind their ethically made candles are building brighter futures for themselves and their families in western Massachusetts after years in refugee camps. Their Akkadian Collection is made by women in Iraq, who have little opportunity for employment outside the home.

As a social enterprise, Prosperity Candles work at the intersection of business and philanthropy, seeking sustainable market-based solutions to today’s challenges. They believe that supporting women’s entrepreneurship and harnessing the resources of the global marketplace is the most effective way to achieve long-term impact.
