Leather Bracelet Cuffs
Be on trend with the simple elegance of handcrafted jewelry, infused with tribal style. Sidai Designs collaborates with Maasai women in Tanzania, to create jewelry with modern aesthetics, based on traditional beading techniques. The jewelry is created entirely by hand, using a combination of ingeniously up-cycled products. Traditional glass beads are intricately joined using thread salvaged from old grain bags and enhanced with recycled metal beads. Their bracelets use recycled grain bags to create the thread, recycled plastic boxes to create the boning, and recycled aluminum or sterling silver for the clasps. Inspired by the jewelry worn by the young Maasai warriors, each piece is slightly different and one of a kind. The Warrior Triangle Bracelet is a 2" wide, glass beaded, flexible cuff, with recycled plastic boning, woven together with recycled thread. The soft leather lace closure has adjustable recycled aluminum bead fastenings.
TanzaniaSidai Designs is an organization that supports Maasai women in northern Tanzania, by collaborating to create high-end jewelry, based on traditional beading techniques infused with modern aesthetics. Sidai means “good or beautiful” in the Maasai tribal language, Maa.
Their aim is to provide hope and a sense of purpose using traditional artistry and creativity. Sidai Design believes that sustainable employment will help overcome poverty, improve the womens' social standing and increase their access to health and educational services, eventually helping their communities. Proceeds from sales of their jewelry are used to provide social services to the women, such as literacy, health, language and legal courses and helps break a terrible cycle of poverty for the Maasai women and their families.
